Spectacular Beauty of Kanyakumari

Kanyakumari is a town that is located at Tamil Nadu state in India. This place was earlier known as Cape Comorin and lies at the Indian Peninsula from South. The major cities that are close to this town are Nagercoil which is the administrative headquarters of Kanyakumari district lies at a distance of 22 kilometre as well as Thiruvananthapuram which is the capital of Kerala with a distance of 85 kilometre. The name of this place was kept as Kanyakumari due to the Kumari Amman or Kanyakumari Temple that located in the town itself right on the sea shore linked with the Arabian sea, the Gulf of Mannar and the Indian Ocean. It means a virgin. Kanyakumari was found as a hub for pearl fishery and also the pearl trade. It was believed that the Paravars ruled that Coast and then constructed a temple to worship the Sea Goddess.

There are many myths related to this place. Kanya Devi is worshiped as a virgin goddess and is believed to bless the tourists and also the pilgrims who visit this town. As per the Hindu myths this place has been originated and has relation with the gods like Parvati, Lord Shiva and Lord Hanuman. This district now is known as Southern Travancore due to the king of Venad who established Travancore by enlarging his access up to Azhva during the time of 1729 to 1758. Travancore participated in every fight to get independence and also leaned forward in 1947 for the independence of India.

Apart from this temple which is so popular among the tourist, you can also visit the Vivekananda Rock Memorial that was built in the year 1970 and lies at the southeast of Kumari Amman temple. You can visit the giant statue of a Tamil saint-poet Thiruvallur that has a height of about 133 feet that is nearly 40.5 metre and is among the tallest statue in entire Asia. Besides these, you can even see the rock that has footprint of goddess and also said that Swami Vivekananda have seated on this rock for meditation. This was done especially for Mahatma’s birthday which is on 2 October to pay respect to him.

During night, Thiruvalluvar’s statue is very eye-catchy. In Kanyakumari you will get many places to visit like the Western Ghats from Vattakottai Fort, Padmanabhapuram Palace near Thuckalay, Pechiparai Dam and many sites that is worth visiting.
